The coldness in his heart
Burned the deepest hole in mine
The icy indifference in his eyes
Only served to wound, to scald, to
Send me into endless pain.
I begged for warmth,
A respite from the burning, biting ache
That plagued me.
Yet the winter stretched far too long
Soon the frostbite that ensued
Enveloped my heart and crushed it
Crushing too the embers that
Still glowed with warmth and love
For the coldness in his heart
Had found its mark
And burned the deepest hole in mine.
